Nick Castiglia
Owner/Head Instructor

Nick Castiglia is a lifelong martial artist, starting his journey at age 10. Since then, he has achieved the rank of black belt in each Goju Ryu Karate, traditional Jiu Jitsu, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Nick has had the opportunity to train with the Okinawan masters of Japan, in Thailand at the renowned Lanna Kiat Busaba Muay Thai Gym in Chiang Mai, and in Brazil at the famed Gracie Barra. He has also had the privilege of training with many high-level and esteemed BJJ Black belts, Olympic wrestlers, and professional MMA fighters.

In addition to training with the best, Nick has also tested himself among the best. He represented Team Canada, competing in Karate in Japan and the United States. In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, he has competed heavily at the regional, provincial and international levels, winning several tournaments not only at his weight, but also in the absolute division. Tapping into his vast and varied martial arts experience, Nick also spent time fighting Mixed Martial Arts professionally, travelling as far as Guam to fight. While Nick still competes in BJJ, his competitive energies are now on the BJJ and Muay Thai fighters who study under him, as trainer, coach, and expert pad holder.

Nick’s primary focus now is on his students. He prides himself in giving his absolute best effort as a coach and teacher to all of his pupils, regardless of their ultimate goals. Whether their martial arts journey focuses on personal development, fitness, fighting, or fun, Nick pours his heart and soul into his students. His expertise also lends exceptionally well to the instruction of children, which he has been doing since he was 15 years old. In addition to these many years of experience, Nick also draws on his years working as a child and youth worker to connect with, mentor, and teach children regardless of their needs. He is constantly working with experts in the fields of education, recreation, and counselling, as well as professionals in rehabilitation, community service, and mental health. He consults with these leaders to expand his knowledge of childhood development, human behavior, and social issues to better understand, and provide for, the children at his school.

Nick is a very proud member of the Gracie Barra team and he can’t wait to see you on the mats!
